Zwelethu brings Miriam Makeba back on stage for Bain’s Whisky

Teaming up with the creatives from Hoorah Digital, Egg Films Zwelethu Radebe honours the legacy of global superstar Miriam Makeba in his latest #WhiskyRemastered campaign for Bain’s. Mama Afrika is brought back to life by combining elements of archival footage, VFX by Black Ginger, performances from a body double and music remastered by the talents of Msaki and Sun-EL Musician, to celebrate South African creatives, past and present.

‘To bring Miriam Makeba back to life and perform once more, we analysed a wide selection of archival footage. Once we narrowed down the selects, we filmed a body double performing the song, matching camera angles, and lighting of the stock footage and replaced our double’s head with the archival footage of Miriam. Matching the look and feel of the old footage to create an authenticate remastering of the classic song.’ Says Zwelethu about paying homage to one of the first African vocalist to receive international recognition.

The spot features a reimagining of Makeba’s all too familiar 1967 hit song ‘Pata Pata’. The new song called ‘Pata Pata Saguquka’ which translated literally means ‘we change’ is available to download with all proceeds being donated to the Miriam Makeba Foundation.
