Zwelethu and Ogilvy celebrate the 16th man in the Castle Lager’s Rugby World Cup spot

Ogilvy Cape Town and Egg Films Zwelethu Radebe unveil the latest Castle Lager commercial. Ahead of the Rugby World Cup, the film beautifully honours the sacrifices made by all South Africans, both on and off the field. Celebrating our heritage and the resilience of our people, the visuals intertwine with the evocative and poetic words of an Xhosa elder and you can’t help but feel that greatness brewing. Go Bokke!
A Xhosa elder stands on a rugby field in the Eastern Cape, the spiritual homeland of South African rugby and with profound intensity he offers a heartfelt and poignant send off to the Boks as they embark on their journey to RWC 2023, while simultaneously celebrating the strength and unwavering spirit of working-class South Africans and fans.
Unapologetically South African, ‘Greatness is Brewing’ embraces the unyielding passion of our nation. The commercial also features a star-studded Bok cast, from Lukhanyo, Thomas and Bongani, to Eben, Jaden and Mapimpi, ‘I wanted the piece to also serve as a real tribute to where so many of our rugby legends were made, the Eastern Cape. The scene capturing our Xhosa stick fighters, for example, was shot a few metres from where Mapimpi grew up.’ Adds Zwelethu.
